A revealing new YouGov survey commissioned by travel tech specialist Aquarium Software has found that nearly a quarter of men (24 per cent) planning to go on a winter sports holiday in the next year admit they will not take out any travel insurance. This is compared to a 17 per cent national average and just eight per cent of women.
The survey of over 2,000 British adults, took a sneaky peek behind the slopes to see what people are really doing when it comes to travel insurance and winter sports.
And, despite the well-publicised risks associated with winter sports, a further 11 per cent of Brits planning to go on a winter sports holiday in the next year don’t know if they will have cover or not; that could be as many as 28 percent hitting the slopes with no proper insurance cover.
“These findings reveal a worrying, cavalier attitude among men when it comes to safety on the slopes,” said Aquarium Software Director, Mark Colonnese.
“It is high time they covered up. This comes despite the fact that 70 per cent of men who have been or plan to go on a winter sports holiday are well aware they may not be covered for specific activities unless they have declared them – but for some, the plan seems to be not to bother with cover anyway. Given the high number of well publicised incidents, this gap between genuine risk and adequate insurance cover is an accident waiting to happen,” concluded Colonnese.
Numerous media reports continue to highlight the misery that can result from having no insurance or a policy that is inadequate for your needs.
Technology can address these issues for all, if deployed in the right way, but the best technology in the world cannot help if people simply refuse to insure.
