Digital technology makes insurance easier for all types of pets

We have much to learn from 2020.  One of the trends that we are only too conscious of is just how many people have chosen to take on a new pet this year.  In the UK, a survey by Ipsos MORI found that half of British households that currently owned a pet acquired at least one more in the COVID-19 lockdown and that 10 percent of households without a pet intended to get one in the next six months.

The lifetime health of our pets

From puppy to parrot, many families have found joy, positivity and health benefits in their pets despite the current restrictions on our normal lives.  We would encourage every pet owner to carefully consider all aspects of pet care when welcoming a dog, cat, rabbit, chinchilla or even a snake into the family.  Given that the estimated lifetime cost of owning a dog is £21,000 and a cat £12,000, this includes putting in place suitable insurance for your pet to cover vet and medical bills from their youth to old age.

It is well known that certain breeds of animal are more costly to insure, along with age and chronic health conditions.  Imagine how much it must cost Santa to insure his purebred reindeer? Not only do Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donna and Blitzen (and yes, we can name them all!) all need to be match fit to travel the entire globe every Christmas Eve, they also need magical powers of flight and the strength to carry a multitude of gifts for well-behaved children everywhere.  With that kind of responsibility premiums must be significant.  In all seriousness, it is worth investing a bit of time to research insurance premiums for your preferred pet in advance – particularly as certain pets will be susceptible to certain conditions.

Might Santa opt for digital insurance for his reindeer?

Thanks to digital technology using real-time data, it is becoming more straightforward to identify the pet insurance policy that meets your pet’s needs as well as understand the costs of this.  Aquarium’s digital platform is helping insurers create a better, more efficient experience for customers by transforming the way that people buy and manage pet insurance.  We hope that Santa reads this and opts to insure his reindeer using a quick, simple and effective pet insurance policy driven by the Aquarium platform.

Wishing you and your pets a peaceful and relaxing holiday season.
