May 23, 2019Aquarium was delighted to be a shirt sponsor of DLG 2019 Sprintathon, an event that raised more than £100,000 for Stand Up To Cancer! and Mind, the mental health charity.
Held jointly in Leeds and Bromley (two of DLG’s key office sites), the Sprintathon is a marathon with a difference. DLG employees ran 100 metres each in sequence, passing a baton between each employee until the magic distance of 26.2 miles had been reached.
In case you are wondering, that means more than 400 DLG employees, across more than 100 teams, took on the task of sprinting 100 metres each! This year DLG held a race between the Bromley and Leeds sites, with Bromley coming out on top with an incredible time of 1 hour 56 minutes and 53 seconds. This was easily one of the 10 fastest Sprintathons ever completed, and the second fastest in bad weather.
Aquarium’s Product Marketing Director, Mark Colonnese, attended the Bromley event. Despite several torrential downpours of rain, DLG’s employees continued to show great enthusiasm for their charity race. Mark even bumped into Penny James, DLG’s brand new CEO, who had rushed from the company’s Annual General Meeting to kick off proceedings. Mark and Penny chatted about the announcement to shareholders of DLG’s new travel IT system roll out started in April, enabling the group’s first fully automated travel claim payment.
Mark Colonnese comments: “Despite it being one of the rainiest days of the year, DLG’s Sprintathon has raised an incredible £145,000 for these deserving charities. We look forward to Sprintathon 2020, where Aquarium will be ready to provide an elite team of athletes to take part.”
